Spicejet To Suspend Services to Lilabari Airport

Spicejet Airlines has decided to suspend its flight services to Lilabari Airport in Lakhimpur, Assam from June 30 which is nearly four and half months after its operation.

It was onJanuary 15 that Spicejet operated direct flight on the Kolkata-Lilabari routeon daily basis as part of the UDAN scheme. The Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN)scheme was launched by the union ministry of Civil Aviation's that aims toconnect small towns of the country but it proves to be a total farce for peopleliving in the northeastern part of Assam and the neighbouring areas ofArunachal Pradesh.

On May 20last, Spicejet Airlines informed the Lilabari Airport Director that it wouldsuspend its flight to the airport from June 1 till further notice. The Airlines,however, extended the suspension in this route to a fortnight and then toanother 15 days. The Airlines will now suspend its flight SG 3345 and SG 3346from July 1 onwards.
