Tiger Cub Named After Hima Das in Bangalore

Pratidin Bureau

The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) on Monday announced that they named a six-month-old tiger cub 'Hima' in honour of Assam Sprinter Hima Das on the occasion of International Tiger Day celebrated on July 29 every year.

Reports stated that the zoo authorities have a firm belief that by naming the tiger cub after the star athlete, they will be able to attract more tourists to the park and will also be able to raise awareness among the masses about the importance of tiger conservation.

Executive Director of BBP, Vanashree Vipin Singh in a statement said that a model on the impact of tiger extinction will be on display at the entrance of the zoo. Singh said that the visitors will also have a chance to make their own tiger animals as part of the celebration.
