ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah’s name figured in final draft of NRC

Pratidin Bureau

Separatist outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Baruah's name was present in the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC), along with the names of five of his family members.

According to Baruah's brother, Bikul Baruah, the names of the five family members are his deceased mother Miliki Baruah, brother Bikul Baruah, sister-in-law Renu Baruah, niece Dimpi Baruah and nephew Sukapha Baruah. However, the names of his wife Boby Bhuyan Baruah and two sons Ankur and Akash are missing because of lack of some documents.

According to Baruah's brother and sister-in-law, the ULFA-I leader's NRC application was filled by them and Baruah may not even know about his inclusion in the draft. The draft NRC states Baruah's birthplace as Chakalibhoria village (also known as Jeraigaon) in the Chabua area of upper Assam's Dibrugarh district and date of birth as February 15, 1957.

The ULFA-I commander's name had also appeared in the first draft published on the intervening night on December 31-January 1.

Paresh Baruah had launched a revolution for the sovereignty of Assam around 40 years ago and is reportedly leading it now from somewhere along with the China-Myanmar border.
