ULFA (I) releases kidnapped Tea Garden Employee

Twelve days after the kidnapping, the ULFA (I) has released the employee of Shankar Tea Estate in Tinsukia district on Wednesday evening. The abducted employee Gaurang Chandra Deb was reportedly released in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

It may be mentioned here that a group of ULFA (I) militants abducted Gauranga Deb, the head fitter at Shankar's tea estate factory, on October 11. The Police had failed to trace Deb, despite operations by security forces along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

Hisrelease comes a day after his daughter urged the outlawed outfit to release herfather. The family had been appealing to the ULFA (I) since Deb's abductionasking the outfit's top bosses, including Paresh Baruah, to release him withoutany harm.

Accordingto reports, the ULFA (I) had demanded several lakhs of rupees from the Shankartea estate management, but the management had not agreed to pay the ransom. Themanagement further denied receiving any extortion letter from the ULFA (I).
