‘Veerangana’ Bishmita to get National Award

A cop from Assam Police's Veerangana, Bishmita Likhak has been selected for the 'Virangana Savitribai Phule National Award 2019'.

The award will be conferred by Babu Jagjivan Ram Kala Sanskriti and Sahitya Akademi at Rajendra Bhawan in New Delhi on July 11.

Assam Police sets up India's first female commando unit 'Veerangana' to tackle rising crime against women in the state. The special platoon has been raised to check violence against women on the streets of Assam.

The 'Veerangana' team have been trained in 'silent drill' known only to US Marines, in martial arts, bike riding and horse riding along with the handling of lethal and non-lethal arms.
