Bypolls | Will AGP field candidates?

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided not to field any candidates for the forthcoming bypolls from BJP occupied constituencies.

AGP General secretary Ramendra Narayan Kalita on Wednesday told media that AGP is yet to confirm regarding the Jania seat. Party frontal body has decided to hold talks with BJP in this regard. However, he made it clear that the regional party will not field any candidates from the BJP occupied Rangapara, Ratabari and Sonari constituencies.

Bypolls for Rangapara, Ratabari, Jania, and Sonari assembly seats will be held within six months.

The four legislators, who got elected to Lok Sabha in therecent parliamentary polls, resigned from the Assam Legislative Assemblymembership recently.

Newly elected BJP MP Pallab Lochan Das (Tezpur Lok Sabha), BJP MLA from Sonari Topon Kumar Gogoi (Jorhat Lok Sabha), Kripanath Mallah (Karimganj Lok Sabha) and Congress MP Abdul Khaleque (Barpeta Lok Sabha) submitted their resignations to Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami.
