2 Missing As 9 Trucks Slide Off Vessel, Fall Into Ganga River

At least two people were after a total of nine trucks slide off a cargo ship and fell into Ganga river in West Bengal's Malda district on Monday.

According to reports, the accident took place when the lorries, laden with stone chips, fell off a Roll On Roll Off (RORO) vessel after it developed a snag while on its way to Malda's Manichak from Jharkhand on Monday evening. The RORO is a vessel used to carry vehicles along with passengers.

While many passengers of the lorry swam to safety, at least seven-eight people were still missing, district authorities said as reported by ANI.

As per latest information, six passengers have been rescued but two remain missing.

Malda Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Gaur Chandra Mondal, who was present at the spot, said that an enquiry into the cause of the incident has been launched.
