Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has announced on Sunday that he will sit on a hunger strike to protest against the government's delay in appointment of a Lokpal at the Centre.

While urging the people to join him in his campaign for a corruption free country, Hazare announced that his hunger strike would start from October 02, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Hazare's native village at Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

The social activist criticised the NDA government's unenthusiastic behavior towards the implementation of the Lokpal Bill, which was passed by the Paliament under the UPA government and signed by the then President in January 2014.

Anna Hazare has been the face of the Lokpal movement for a very long time. He went on a 12 day hunger strike in 2011 and later launched a fast which gained popular support, resulting in the passing of the bill by the UPA government.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had expressed  disappointment over the Centre's response on the appointment of search committee members for a Lokpal.
