Biren Singh extends support for CAB

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today expressed hisfull confidence that the Central leadership will include special provisionswithin Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) to protect the indigenous people of theNorth East region, if the Bill which will allow minority communities of Hindus,Sikhs, Christians of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh to apply for IndianCitizenship, is implemented.

Addressing a press meet Biren told, "we trust and haveconfidence that Central leaders" will be there to protect the people.

Union Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Mizoram had assured the Mizos that a special clause will be added to protect the people of Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh from the settlement of people from India's neighboring countries. However, "I believe the provisions will apply for the whole region" Biren had remarked. The three states are well protected by the Inner Line Permit System which regulates the entry of outsiders to the states.

He also informed that Amit Shah will grace the annual tourism festival of Sangai Festival in November and urged people not to resort to bandhs and blockades.\

Moreover, Manipur witnessed massive protests against the implementation of CAB during the early months of the year. Recently, thousands of students and public, beeping to the call of Manipur People Against CAB (MANPAC) raised slogans, organized human chain rally and sit-in the demonstration to protest against the Bill.
