BJP HQ wears festive look

Pratidin Bureau

The BJP national headquarters wore a subdued look for much of the day on Thursday as it emerged that the party's performance in Maharashtra and Haryana assembly polls fell short of expectation, especially in the northern state where it appeared unlikely to get majority.

There were not much celebration even though its spokespersons exuded confidence that the BJP will be able to form government in Haryana as well after it appeared set to get a majority in Maharashtra.

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah here on Thursday thanked the people of Maharashtra for showing confidence in the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. The two parties have collectively won 93 seats and are leading in 66 seats.

In a tweet in Hindi, he congratulated Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for their efforts.

Humbled to have got people's support yet again in Maharashtra, says PM Narendra Modi. I thank people of Haryana for blessing us. We will continue to work with same zeal and dedication for state's progress, he said.
