BJP Loses Panaji To Congress

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lost the prestigious Panaji Assembly constituency to Congress by 1,758 votes. The loss came after the saffron party enjoyed 25 years of consecutive run.

The bypoll to the constituency was held following the death of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who represented the constituency since 1994.

The victorious Congress candidate polled 8,748 votes and the BJP candidate polled 6,990 votes.
