BrahMos supersonic missile test-fired in Odisha

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test fired from Chandipur range launch pad in Odisha on Monday morning.

The missile was reportedly fired at 10:18 am.

BrahMos Aerospace and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the test flight from Integrated Test Range in Balasore. The test-firing was carried out under extreme weather conditions.

The missile, which already has been inducted in the Indian Army and Navy and soon to be a part of Air Force fighter jet Sukhoi 30 MKI, has a flight range of up to 290 km and can cruise at speeds of up to Mach 3.0 or three times the speech of sound.

BrahMos can reach a cruising altitude of 15 km and a terminal altitude as low as 10 metres. The missile also carries a conventional warhead weighing 200 kg to 300 kg.
