Cabinet nod for continuing scholarship schemes for minority students

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved proposal for continuation of Pre-Matric, Post Matric and Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes for the students belonging to the Minority Communities during 2017-18 to 2019-20.

The schemes, at a total cost of 5338.32 crore rupees, will be implemented through the National Scholarship Portal, an official statement stated.

"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for continuation of pre-matric, post matric and merit-cum-means based scholarship schemes for the students belonging to the six notified minority communities at a total cost of Rs. 5338.32 crore for period up to 2019-20," it said.

The amount to beneficiaries will be disbursed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

According to the statement, the cabinet decision is expected to benefit around 70 students annually.
