Centre decides to introduce semester from Classes 9-12

The Narendra Modi-led government in the Centre for the second term is ready to bring a massive change in the education system of the country and has decided to lift out the examination of Matric and Higher Secondary examination and the former 10+2 system will be changed to 5+3+3+4.

In the draftpolicy recommended by renowned scientist Dr. K. Kasturirangan, it recommendsthat Extension of Right to Education Act 2009 to cover children of ages 3 to18. A 5+3+3+4 curricular and pedagogical structure based on cognitive andsocio-emotional development stages of children have been recommended by thecommittee formed by the Central Government under the Chairmanship of Dr.Kasturirangan.

In the draftpolicy recommended by the committee it states that there will be semestersystem in Class IX, X, XI and XII and that every student will have to appear in5-6 subjects in every semester. The policy also says that the students of Class3, 5 and 8 will have to appear the State Census examination.

The draftpolicy also states that the schools have been suggested that the studentsshould be provided the education through the mother language up to Class 5 or 8and that Hindi, English and one regional language should be made compulsory inthe school level.  

Schools willbe re-organized into school complexes. The Draft National Education Policy,2019 is built on the foundational pillars of Access, Equity, Quality,Affordability and Accountability.
