The Congress party on Monday asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to keep a check on the increasing number of fake and duplicate voters in the electoral lists.

The Grand Old Party also reiterated its demand for reverting to the ballot paper system for the 2019 Lok Sabha and state assembly election.

The Congress party also demanded a 'ceiling' on poll expenditure by candidates and political parties.

ECI had invited views of all political parties on measures to improve accuracy, transparency and inclusivity of electoral rolls in connection with the upcoming elections of Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

While putting principal opposition party's stand before the ECI, Congress General Secretary in charge organisation Ashok Gehlot in the party's written reply said that the single biggest challenge before the commission is the increasing number of fake and duplicate voters from the rolls.
