Heavy downpour in Mumbai | Transportation system paralysed

Pratidin Bureau

Incessant rainfall continues to plague Mumbai as normal life has been thrown out of gear in the country's financial capital. Several parts of Mumbai and adjoining areas including Thane, Kalyan and Dombivli have become the victims of torrential rains.

On Tuesday morning, office-goers in Santa Cruz, Lower Parel, and Bandra found themselves trapped in a heavy downpour as ominous clouds continue to hover even after the storm.

Train services have been hit, as the tracks have been deemed unsafe due to erosion and flooding. Water logging has been seen in most of the areas.

The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) has closed the floodgates to prevent further sea water flooding during high tide. Normal life has been thrown out gear in the Palghar district area because of excessive water-logging caused due to rain and high tide.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast sporadic rain in Mumbai and nearby areas.
