Kartarpur Corridor: 3rd Round of Talks Underway

The thirdround of meeting between delegates of India and Pakistan was held on Wednesday todiscuss and finalize the draft agreement of the operationalisation of theKartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims.

Officialssaid that a 20-member Pakistani delegation crossed over to India for the jointsecretary-level meeting at Attari in Amritsar.

Accordingto officials, the corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with DeraBaba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab and facilitate visa-freemovement of Indian pilgrims who will have to obtain a permit to visit KartarpurSahib which was established in 1522 by Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak Dev.  

Accordingto a report published in news agency PTI, Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson andDirector General of South Asia and SAARC Mohammad Faisal before crossing intoIndia at Wagah border to take part in the talks said that Pakistan is positiveabout the outcome of the third round of talks on the corridor. He said, "We arehopeful to give a final shape to the draft agreement of Kartarpur corridor intoday's talks with India. Some 90 percent work on the project has beencompleted and Pakistan is committed to opening the corridor in November."
