Kartarpur Corridor | First Batch of Pilgrims Enter Pakistan

The first batch of pilgrims entered Pakistan via theKartarpur Corridor on Saturday on their way to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated thepassenger terminal building of the Kartarpur Corridor which connects the DeraBaba Nanak in India's Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Narowal districtof Pakistan's Punjab province.

The corridor is being thrown open just days beforethe 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 12.

The corridor which links the Gurdwara Darbar Sahibin Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to theDera Baba Nanak shrine in this Punjab district was inaugurated on the Pakistaniside by Khan. He will also receive the Indian Sikh pilgrims, including formerPrime Minister Manmohan Singh.

PM Modi also flagged off the first batch of over 500Indian pilgrims that will travel to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowaldistrict of Pakistan's Punjab province through the Kartarpur corridor.

Modi also paid obeisance at the Gurudwara Dera BabaNanak in Punjab while he was on his way to the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi thanked PakistanPrime Minister Imran Khan for understanding India's sentiment on the issue ofthe Kartarpur Sahib corridor.

Modi said that the corridor and theIntegrated Check Post would serve thousands of devotees daily and bring happinessto the people. It will be easy to pay obeisance at the Darbar Sahib gurdwaraafter the opening of the Kartarpur corridor, he said at a gathering in DeraBaba Nanak.
