Kashmiris Celebrates Eid Under Severe Restrictions

Jammuand Kashmir streets wear a deserted look on Monday as Eid-Al-Adha celebrationstook place under severe security restrictions especially in Srinagar. Eidprayers have not been allowed in most mosques in Srinagar where curfew-likecurbs were re-imposed on Sunday amid fear of violence.

Thephotos shared by the government shows that Eid prayers were held in smallermosques in neighbourhoods.

According to officials, politicians including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti who have been under arrest since last week would be allowed to offer prayers in nearby mosques.

Officialsfurther informed that tough restrictions returned as sporadic clashes tookplace in Srinagar after security was eased on Saturday.

PrincipalSecretary, Planning and Commission, Rohit Kansal on Sunday said that people inSrinagar had come out in large numbers to shop for Eid on Sunday before therestrictions were back. He also said that arrangements were being made tofacilitate transport for people.
