MEA seeks assistance from European nations to trace Nirav Modi

Pratidin Bureau

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reportedly sought assistance from Belgium, France and United Kingdom to trace and curb the movements of businessman Nirav Modi.

A 'note verbale' on Nirav Modi had also been shared with the governments of the three nations.

Nirav Modi, who is the prime accused of the multi-crore Punjab National Bank scam, is reportedly seeking political asylum in the United Kingdom.

It may be mentioned here that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier filed an application in the court seeking consent to start extradition as non-bailable warrants had been issued against Modi. A special Prevention of Money Laundering court in Mumbai has given ED the nod to proceed.

The ED has also requested for a Red Corner Notice against Nirav Modi but the Interpol is yet to take any action regarding the same.
