Over 60000 Kg Plastic Seized In Mumbai

Rs 3 crore as fine and over 60,000 kilograms of plastic was collected by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the plastic ban period from June 23, 2018, to June 25, 2019.

This was informed by BMC in an official release in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The civic body further informed that it conducted around 1035207 raids and seized 61851.429 kilograms of plastic.

"A fine of Rs 3,47,70,000 crore has been collected," the statement added.

It may be mentioned here that on June 23, 2018, the Maharashtra government enforced the ban on the manufacture, use, and sale of single-use plastic materials.

The BMC, following the order, formed 24 special squads to conduct raids and levy fines ranging between Rs 5000 and Rs 25000 including a provision of three-month imprisonment for offenders.
