Second attempt of Chandrayaan-2 launch likely this month

Pratidin Bureau

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is likely to make the second attempt to launch the Chandrayaan-2 mission this month. Due to a technical snag in the rocket system, the launch of India's most ambitious space mission was aborted less than an hour before its scheduled lift-off at 2:51 am on July 15.

Thepowerful GSLV Mark III rocket was set to go up from Sriharikota in AndhraPradesh with a rover that would have landed on the moon in about two months'time.

"Therewas a helium leak from the propellent team. The problem has now beendiscovered. A nipple joint valve in the plumbing malfunctioned," an ex-ISROscientist was quoted as saying by HT.

Ananalysis published by Sputnik International claimed that the approximate$124-million price tag of the Chandrayaan 2 is less than half the budget ofHollywood blockbuster Avengers Endgame ($356 million). The Indian space agencyhas a budget that's 20 times less than NASA, its US counterpart.

India'snext big mission will involve sending a human into orbit through Gaganyaan by2022.
