Shocking! 86-Year-Old Woman Raped

Pratidin Bureau

In an extremely appalling and shocking case, an 86-year-old woman was allegedly brutally raped by a 37-year-old man in an isolated area in south west Delhi's Chhawla region on the evening of Monday.

As reported by PTI, the incident took place on Monday evening when the accused, under the pretext of dropping the victim to her destination, instead took her to a secluded field and raped her.

The report quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena as saying, "A case under section 376 (rape) of IPC was registered and the accused was arrested."

As reported, the medical examination of the victim was conducted and her statement was recorded. As her condition was stable, she was released from hospital on Tuesday.

The horrendous incident has been slammed by the Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) that called the development "extremely disturbing".

DCW chief Swati Maliwal was quoted as saying, "From a six-month-old girl to a 90-year-old woman, no one is safe in Delhi. The kind of trauma this woman had to face clearly indicates that the perpetrators of these crimes are not humans. I met the woman today, she is an extremely courageous woman. We will ensure she gets justice. This case needs to be fast tracked and justice should be served within six months."
