Sourav Ganguly Takes Over As BCCI President

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly took over as the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.

JayShah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, began his tenure as the newsecretary while Arun Dhumal takes office as treasurer. Dhumal is the youngerbrother of Minister of State for Finance and former BCCI President AnuragThakur.

No electionswere held for appointments of the posts since all candidates emerged unopposedafter weeks of lobbying and hectic parleys.

Gangulyis the first Indian cricketer after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to become thepresident of BCCI. However, he will be able to serve as the President only upto September 2020 as he is currently the President of Cricket Association ofBengal (CAB) and will have to go into a compulsory cooling off period.

Gangulytook over as CAB President in 2015, following the death of his administrativementor Jagmohan Dalmiya.
