Statue of Unity enters WAN Awards 2019

World'stallest, Statue of Unity in Gujarat has entered the globally acclaimed WorldArchitecture News (WAN) Awards 2019. The WAN Awards showcase the bestinternational design in current and future projects.

TheWAN award ceremony is likely to be held in July.

TheStatue of Liberty was built by Indian Infrastructure Company Larsen and Toubro. Towering at 182 meters,the statue is dedicated to India's first deputy PM Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

S.N Subrahmanyan, CEO andMD of Larsen and Toubro said that it is a significant and deserving recognitionof India's engineering skill and project management on this prestigious recognition.

The Statue of Unity which isone of the few man-made objects visible from space used 6,500 tonnes ofstructural steel, 18,500 tonnes of reinforced steel, 210,000 tonnes of concreteand 1,700 tonnes of bronze involved the hard work of over 4,500 designers,architects, engineers, global consultants and workmen.  

It can also withstandwinds upto 290 kmph and earthquake upto 6.5 magnitudes Richter scale.
