Tamil Nadu to have 2 new districts

Pratidin Bureau

Two new districts are set to be formed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu with the total number of districts spiking up to 35.

The Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in a statement on Thursday said that the Tenkasi District would be sketched out of Tirunelveli and Chengalpattu District from the Kanchipuram district.

The Chief Minister opined that due to the vastness of Tirunelveli and Kanchipuram bifurcation of the two would be beneficial for better administration. Special Officers would be appointed for the formation of the new districts, the CM added.

Further, the state Revenue Minister R.B Udhayakumar informed in the Assembly that creation of a few more districts by bifurcating bigger revenue units is being considered.

Udhayakumar also hinted on the announcement of a new district with Kumbakonam as its headquarters soon.
