Three killed, 10 injured as blast rocks Amritsar

Pratidin Bureau

Three people were killed and more than 10 others have been injured in a blast at Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar's Adliwal village on Sunday. Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, a senior officer, said the 10 injured have been taken to the hospital.

"The blast occurred at a congregation of the Nirankari, a spiritual organisation, in Adliwal village of Rajasansi town in Amritsar," said Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, Deputy Commissioner, adding that three people were killed and several injured.

Two motorcycle-borne men, their faces covered, reportedly threw a grenade near the Nirankari Bhawan, where a religious ceremony was on at the time. The police have not ruled out a terror angle to the blast.

Eyewitnesses said that hand grenades were lobbed inside the premises of the Nirankari Bhawan around 12:30 pm. The Punjab Police, however, have not named anyone or suspected any organisation for the act.
