To protest the recent killing of two students in police firing in a clash in North Dinajpur district, BJP's 12-hour West Bengal bandh witnessed strong retaliation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government as sporadic incidents of clashes and violence between the two parties were reported across the state on Wednesday.

Clashes broke out between TMC and BJP supporters in West Midnapore, West Burdwan, South Dinajpur and North Dinajpur districts when rallies taken out by the BJP in support of the bandh came face to face with processions taken out by the TMC denouncing it.

Train services also took a hit in some districts of the state as clashes broke out between BJP and TMC workers when BJP workers tried to obstruct movement of trains in Barasat.

Protesters continued to vandalise government buses in Cooch Behar, Howrah, Midnapore and in other places as they even attempted to set them on fire and torched tyres

In Kolkata, rallies were taken out by BJP leaders in support of the bandh while senior TMC leaders and ministers were seen on the streets trying to ensure that the life remained normal and the common people did not face any problem.

Early morning, police arrested 24 bandh supporters protesting in Bagdogra and Naxalbari areas of Siliguri.
