United Left Alliance defeats ABVP wins JNU Students’ Polls

After emerging with the maximum numbers of votes for the post of president, vice president, general secretary and joint secretary, the United Left Alliance defeating ABVP has won the JNU students polls.

N Sai Balaji claimed the post of the President with a margin of over 1,000 votes, Sarika Chaudhary clinched the post of Vice President with a margin of over 1500 votes, Aejaz Ahmed Rather has been elected as the General Secretary and Amutha Jayadeep as the Joint Secretary.

It may be noted that two Assamese students have also been elected in the post of School Council. One among the two students is Assam Police's ADGP Bhaskar Mahanta's daughter Srijani Bhaswa Mahanta (SFI) and the other student is Karabi Kakati (AISA).

The counting process began on Friday, which was ruined with allegations of rigging and had to be stopped for more than 14 hours on Saturday. The ABVP had alleged that the Election Committee was attempting to rig the polls.

The elections saw the highest voter turnout in recent years, with nearly 68% students coming out to exercise their mandate. In comparison to last year, there has been a jump of nearly 10 per cent in voting.
