Jaya Prada joins BJP

Pratidin Bureau

Former MP and veteran actor Jaya Prada has joined BJP today and will compete against Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan for the Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

It may be noted that the former MP represented Rampur twice in the Lok Sabha, once in 2004 and second in 2009, as a member of the Samajwadi Party.

Speaking at a press conference , Jaya Prada said "I am a part of national party and I'm in a party, where the leader leads on issues of national security. I am honoured to work under PM Modi's leadership".

Earlier,  the veteran actor had claimed that she was harassed by Azam Khan and also alleged that she  received threats from him.

There are also speculations going on in the political atmosphere about Bollywood actor Urmila Matondkar joining Congress and contesting from Mumbai.

According to a news agency IANS report citing sources, Matondkar might be fielded from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency.

The news agency reports that although her family refused to comment on the speculations, sources have let slipped that her name is at "an advanced stage of consideration by the party leadership", the final decision of which will be made public in a short while.

It may be noted that six of Mumbai's Lok Sabha constituencies will go polling on April 29 in the fourth polling phase of the state.

If speculations be true, the actor would be facing BJP's MP Gopal Shetty once considered to be the party's stronghold.
