US supports India against JeM: Report

Pratidin Bureau

According to a report by the news agency ANI, amid escalating tensions between India and its neighbouring country Pakistan, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had a conversation with the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo over the phone on Wednesday night.

Reportedly, Mike Pompeo told Ajit Doval that the US supports India's decision of taking down Jaish-e-Mohammed's biggest training camp at Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

It may be noted that Pompeo had earlier spoken with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi over phone on Tuesday urging the two countries to de-escalate tensions.

"Following Indian counter-terrorism actions on February 26, I spoke with Indian Minister of External Affairs Swaraj to emphasise our close security partnership and shared goal of maintaining peace and security in the region", read a statement quoting Pompeo.
