Visakhapatnam: Two dead, four injured in another gas leak tragedy

Two people were killed and four were hospitalised due to a gas leakage on Monday night at a pharmaceutical unit in Visakhapatnam.

The ones who died and the others who are wounded worked at Visakhapatnam unit of the firm Sainor Life Sciences, reported the police.

The pharmaceutical unit was shut down after the leakage of benzimidazole gas was reported at around 11:30 pm.

"The situation is under control now. Two persons who died were workers and were present at the leakage site (at the time of the incident). Gas has not spread anywhere else," said a senior police officer to a news agency

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sought information about the incident, and a statement read, "The accident is confined to a department in which there is a reactor. There is no need to panic. The district collector has ordered an inquiry into the matter".

This incident comes nearly two months after eleven people we were killed and over 1,000 became sick after gas leaked at a chemical plant – LG Polymers facility in Visakhapatnam. 

Toxic styrene gas emitted from the chemical plant. Three surrounding villages were evacuated. The plant was shut for forty days.
