Women empowerment main agenda: Smriti Irani

The newly-appointedWomen and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani under Narendra Modi's 2.0Cabinet said that she is committed to take all appropriate steps to ensurewomen empowerment and welfare of children in the country.

Smriti Iranialso congratulated her colleague and Debashree Chaudhuri who has been allottedthe Minister of State for Women and Child Development and extended her bestwishes to the lawmaker from West Bengal's Raiganj.

In a tweeton Friday, Irani said, "Best wishes to my colleague in the Ministry of Womenand Child Development Debashree Chaudhuri on assuming charge today. We arecommitted to take all appropriate steps to ensure women empowerment anddevelopment welfare of children in the context of nation building."

A host ofchallenges awaits Minister Smriti from tackling malnutrition and stunted growthamong the children to drafting the regulations for sexual harassment atworkplace. Irani, who is the youngest face in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi'sCabinet at 43 emerged as a giant slayer after defeating Congress PresidentRahul Gandhi in Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Irani wouldhave to complete the registration of child care institutions and ensure that theanti-trafficking bill passes the Rajya Sabha hurdles which are the two mainissues amongst others.

Irani wouldassume charge as the Women and Child Development Minister on Monday.
