Bordumsa OC killed in encounter with ULFA (I)

At a time when the issue of secret killings has been making rounds in the state, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bordumsa Police Station in Tinsukia district has been killed in an encounter with ULFA (I).

In a joint operation carried out by the Assam Police and CRPF, and led by OC Bhaskar Kalita, two ULFA (I) extremists were reportedly killed. Three CRPF jawans were also seriously injured.

According to sources, wife of ULFA leader Japan Axom has also been killed in the operation.

The team conducted the raid after they received information that a group of 7-12 ULFA (I) extremists took shelter at a house in Bordumsa. The extremists hurled a grenade as soon as they came to know about the presence of the team, after which heavy firing followed.

According to police sources, a huge team of ULFA (I) cadres have been taking shelter in the region since the last few days.

Senior police officers of Tinsukia district have reached Kalita's residence to console the bereaved family.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have offered their condolences to the family of the brave officer.
