Primary school teachers of Assam stage protests over wage reduction

Head teachers of the Primary schools across Assam on Monday had decided to not work demanding official recognition to their posts.

The lower primary teachers launched the protest after Assam government decided to cut their grade pay from Rs 8,700 to Rs 7,400.

On Sunday, the Assam State Primary Teachers Association had announced that from Monday onwards all head teachers of the state would not go to work till the state government accords official recognition to the post.

The association has also locked the district-level offices of the education department at different places of the state.

Education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya has invited the protestors for further discussion and has urged them not take law in their hands.
