Union Minister of State (MoS) for Railways Rajen Gohain on Saturday while reacting on alleged rape case against him said that the 'rape allegation' against him was part of a deep rooted political conspiracy against him and before general election in 15 years, such types of allegation come to the fore.
"It is part of a deep rooted political conspiracy against me. Before every general election in last 15 years, this type of allegation against me came to the fore but every time these proved baseless", said Gohain.
Gohain is one of the top most BJP leaders of Assam. The four times BJP MP from Nagaon constituency, Gohain was elected to Lok Sabha for first time in 1999.
The rape allegation against Gohain triggered political storm in Assam and at national level. The Congress has demanded the immediate sacking of Gohain after a rape case was registered against him . Congress asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately sack Gohain from the union council of ministers.
The Assam Police have registered a case against Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year old married woman in Nagaon district of the state.
Gohain has also filed complaints of blackmailing against the woman and her family. He claimed that the case against the minister has been withdrawn.
Based on complain against Rajen Gohain , Nagaon police registered a case last week bearing the number 2592/18. "The FIR was registered under IPC sections 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). We are investigating and have already noted the lady's statement," said a top police officer of Nagaon district.
"The complaint says that the alleged incident took place seven to eight months ago. Both Gohain and the woman knew each other for a long time and the Union minister used to visit her home," the official said.
Gohain had allegedly committed the crime at the woman's home when her husband and other family members were not present. There has been allegation against the Nagaon police that police has intentionally diluting the case filed against MoS for Railways Rajen Gohain.
"We are investigating the matter . There is no question of liquidating the case . Law will take its own course ", said S Roy Medhi, SP of Nagaon district .
