Pratidin Bureau

The first day of the opening Test between India and Australia belonged to the hosts but from 19/3 at one stage, Cheteshwar Pujara's 16th Test century and maiden test ton at Australia has kept the visitors in it. At stumps, India are 250/9 with Pujara the last wicket to fall thanks to brilliant fielding from Pat Cummins.

The visitors were just 85 for 5 at one stage, before Pujara scored his 16th test hundred and revived the Indian innings.

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin also made valuable contributions.

The stumps were drawn after Pujara's wicket, with Mohammad Shami at the crease at 6.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nayhan Lyon bagged 2 wickets each.

This the first test of the four-match series.
