After Punishing Away Games, Assam Faces Goa in Ranji Trophy Tie at Home

Pratidin Bureau

The last few games have been tough for the Assam Ranji Team. They have lost back to back away games and by huge margins against Services and Rajasthan. They will look to revive their fortunes when they take on Goa tomorrow in its 7th Ranji Trophy match of the 2018-19 season in a home game. Goa has also lost their last game against Tripura by 10 wickets.

Assam's batsmen have been the major cause of worry this season and the chief reason for their dismal performance. Barring a few individual performances, none have showed the intent to play a long innings. The bowlers have relatively performed better with Ranjit Mali and Mukhtar Hussain looking in good form.

Assam are at 6th position in Elite Group C with 14 points from 6 games and will really need to up their game to march ahead in the rankings. Gokul Sharma and Swarupam Purkayastha played important knocks in the last game and their role would be crucial. However, the continuously failing opening pair needs to give Assam a solid start if they want to make any sort of impact in the game.
