Assam’s Shivangi Sharma Bags Gold In Sr. National Swimming Tournament

In a moment of pride, Assam's Shivangi Sharma has bagged the gold medal in 400m freestyle of Senior National Swimming Tournament held at Bangalore.

She clocked an outstanding 4:31:89 mts at the 74th senior National Aquatic Championships on Tuesday.

This is the sixth gold medal for her. Last year in 2020, she bagged five gold medals and came out on top in the 50 m freestyle U-21 women's swimming event at the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 held in Guwahati.

During the junior championships held from October 19-23, the Assam Aquatic Team brought laurels home with their commendable performances. The team secured first place in eight events, ranked second in seven events, and ranked third in eleven.

State-born swimmer Astha Choudhury broke the 12-year senior national record previously held at 1.03.24 and the junior national record at 1.04.66.

Besides Astha, female swimmers Adriza Rani Chetia and Anwesha Khanikar came first in four events. The championship saw the representation of six female swimmers.

The male relay team secured the third-place 4×200 metres event. Moreover, swimmer and diver Rupam Gogoi bagged the first position in the one-metre diving event.

Other winning swimmers include Bhumila Kashyap, Anangsha Sarma, G.Sadhan, R. Borah, Bhargav Phukan, Bikram Changmai, Shaurya Changmai, Jahnabi Kashyap, and Aditya Thapa.
