England to tour Sri Lanka on 2020

England will tour Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in March nextyear, with 120 ICC World Test Championship points at stake.

The tour will begin on7 March, the eve of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 final, with a three-daywarm-up match against a Sri Lanka Board President's XI in Katunayake. That willbe followed by a second warm-up game, this one a four-day first-class fixture,against the same opposition, between 12 and 15 March, at Colombo's P Sara Oval.

That will be followedby the first Test that begins on 19 March at the old Sri Lankan fortress inGalle, where Sri Lanka have lost just two Tests since 2015, the last defeat,co-incidentally, also coming against England, when they visited these shores in2018. The tour will thenconclude with the second and final Test at the R Premadasa InternationalCricket Stadium in the national capital Colombo.

The series is yet another assignment in an alreadypacked red-ball schedule for England, who are scheduled to play 14 Testsbetween now and next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia inOctober-November. The last time England toured Sri Lanka, in November 2018,they swept a three-Test series. It was the first whitewash they inflicted in athree-Test series in Asian conditions.
