Hima qualifies for women’s 200 meters semi-finals

Pratidin Bureau

Indian athlete 'Dhing express' Hima Das qualified for the women's 200 meters semi-finals at the 18th Asian Games Jakarta on Tuesday.

Hima Das finished fourth in Heat 1, but stands 7th out of the 16 athletes moving to the next round of the event

Hima clocked 23.47 to finish fourth in Heat 2, just 200th of a second short of a direct semis berth as Marie Knot of the Philippines took the third spot with 23.45.

Hima Das finishes fourth in her heat of the women's 200m event.

It's not over for Hima, just yet. She really caught up in the last 100 meters and finished with a time of 23.47. While just the top 3 runners from each heat make it through, there's always an opening for the 'fastest loser' and in this case it may be Hima who finished fourth in her heat with a time that was still better than what the winner of Heat 1 clocked.

But the sprinter from Assam earned a berth the semi-finals as one of the fastest losers in the heats as she was seventh in the overall standings.

Hima Das has qualifed for the semi-finals of the women's 200m event in Asiad2018, to be held today at 5:20 pm IST.
