Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, ICC has postponed the Men's T20 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held from October 19 to November 15, 2020 in Australia.

It will now be held in the months of October and November next year.

The ICC reportedly said in a release, "The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia 2020 has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic."

A Hindustan Times report quoted the ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney as saying, "We have undertaken a comprehensive and complex contingency planning exercise and through this process, our number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the sport."

Sawhney reportedly added, "The decision to postpone the ICC Men's T20 World Cup was taken after careful consideration of all of the options available to us and gives us the best possible opportunity of delivering two safe and successful T20 World Cups for fans around the world."

Although the situation in Australia in terms of COVID-19 was relatively under control for a long time, certain of its regions (Victoria and New South Wales) have of late seen a spurt in the number of positive cases.
