Lovlina Borgohain shines yet again; wins gold in National Boxing Championships

2019 has begun on a high note for Assam athletes as promising boxer Lovlina Borgohain has won a gold medal in the 3rd Elite Women's National Boxing Championships which concluded at Vijayanagara today. Another two boxers from the state, namely Pwilao Basumatary and Bhagyabati Kachari settled for the silver medal. However, Pwilao Basumatary and Bhagyabati Kachari participated in the competition representing Indian Railways.

Lovlina, who recently announced her arrival in the world stage with a bronze medal in the World Boxing championship, got the better of Puja of Railways 5-0 in the 69kg category. Pwilao lost to Simranjit Kaur 0-5 in the 64kg category whereas Bhagyabati, who competes in the 81kg category, lost in the finals 0-5 against Puja Rani of Haryana.
