Sunil Chhetri Becomes Second Highest Goalscorer

Pratidin Bureau

India national football team  captain Sunil Chhetri has become  the Second Highest international Goal scorer  among the active players surpassing Argentinean captain Lionel Messi with the two goals he scored against Thailand in the AFC Asian Cup campaign opener.

Messi who has 65 international goals against his name was overtaken by Chhetri who has scored 67 goals in 105 match.

The only other active international ahead of Chhetri is Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo who has 85 goals against his name.

It was Chhetri's double at the 27th and 46th minutes that helped India register an impressive win against Thailand, where the odds were heavily stacked against the Indians.

It was India's first win in Asian Cup in 55 years — they had notched up two in a four-team tournament in 1964.
