Boris Johnson elected new UK Prime Minister

Brexit leader Boris de Pfeffel Johnson has been elected by the Conservative Party to be the new Prime Minister of the Britain.

Leaving behind Jeremy Hunt Johnson won the election by 92,153 votes. Whereas, Hunt ended at 46,656.

The newly elected PM will take over from Theresa May on Wednesday.

While delivering his victory speech, Johnson stated that he would "deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn" and added "We are going to energise the country.

Johnson, who had been May's foreign secretary until resigning over Brexit, expressed his gratefulness towards the former PM saying that it had been "a privilege to serve in her cabinet".

Meanwhile, the outgoing PM congratulated her successor, promising him her "full support from the backbenches".

Taking to Twitter, US President Donald Trump congratulated Johnson saying, "He will be great!"
