Cuban plane crash: More than 100 dead

In a tragic incident of plane crash, Boeing 737 Cubana de Aviacion with at least 110 people aboard has crashed and burned in a cassava field just after takeoff from Havana's Jose Marti airport on Friday. More than 100 passengers on-board the airplane died in the plane crash.

According to reports, four survivors were taken to a Havana hospital where three remained alive but in a critical condition. The jetliner was heading from the capital of Havana to the eastern city of Holguin, said Airport sources.

Authorities said there were 104 passengers and nine crew members on the flight which was operated by Cubana, the state airline.

The plane crashed at 12:08 pm in an agricultural area in the Santiago de las Vegas neighborhood near the airport.

Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived at the location to take reports of the incident.

Though the exact cause of the crash has yet not been ascertained but investigations are still underway.
