Commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's Birth Anniversary, musicians from over 40 countries have come together to pay homage through a medley version of the famous 'Vaishnava Jan To Tene Kahiye' which was launched by PM Narendra Modi on during the closing ceremony of the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Conference.

Artistes from all the countries recognised by the United Nations – Armenia to Angola, Sri Lanka to Serbia, Iraq to Iceland and several other nations collaborated to create videos which were then put together in a five-minute fusion video.

The medley version and the contributions made by participant countries are available on the External Affairs Ministry's YouTube page.

The Gujarati hymn, which was penned by 15th century poet Narsimha Mehta, was part of Mahatma Gandhi's daily prayers. The bhajan, which was originally written in Gujarati, has been sung by many artistes over the years. It talks about equality, respect and support for others.

In China, Gandhi's popular quotes and bhajans echoed at the Chaoyang Park in Beijing. A cultural team from the Indian Embassy sang Gandhiji's most popular bhajans as the school children recited his quotes.

In Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission in Colombo organised a book release function on Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Sri Lanka while special ceremonies were organized at his statues, located mainly in Northern Province.

The Northern Provincial Council had ordered the celebration of Gandhiji's birthday at all its 1000-odd schools covering over 2 lakh students.
