Over 8,000 people affected by flash floods in Sri Lanka

Over 8,000 people have been affected after torrential rains and flash floods wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre's spokesperson Pradeep Kodippilli informed that people have been evacuated from their homes due to the heavy downpour. Nearly 7,740 people in Galle District and 635 people in Kalutara District were affected by the flash floods.

The spokesperson said that the flood situation is gradually improving as rain ceased this morning.

The nation's MeT Department has said showers or thundershowers will continue over most provinces in the island.

No casualties have been reported so far.
