US President Trump meets Russian President Putin in Helsinki today

Pratidin Bureau

United States President Donald Trump arrived in Helsinki, Finland on late Sunday for the highly-anticipated meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The two world leaders met on Monday morning local time, marking the third time the leaders met face-to-face. Both the President's are still in conversation as they are now participating in what's known as an expanded bilateral meeting and working lunch.

The Finnish capital was the chosen location as the country has a long legacy of hosting US-Russia summits because of its perceived neutrality and geographical location.

The two are expected to hold discussion on Russia's involvement in the 2016 Presidential elections, the ongoing trade war and other topics of mutual interest to both the countries.

It may be noted here that the US and Russia have had strained relations due to the latter's annexation of Crimea, crisis in Ukraine, and Russian military intervention in the Russian civil war.
