Temple Gates Closed from June 22–25

As per the official announcement, the temple gates will remain closed from June 22 to June 25, during the ritual seclusion of the deity. No entry will be allowed into the sanctum sanctorum during these four days.

Additionally, no lodging or food arrangements will be permitted near the temple during this period. Distribution of food items to devotees has also been strictly prohibited, in a bid to maintain public hygiene and order.

Timings and Access Guidelines

Devotees will be allowed to access Nilachal Hill only between 5 AM and 6 PM from June 22 to June 25. The administration has also declared that no VIP entry passes will be issued between June 22 and June 27, urging all pilgrims to follow the general queue system.

To ensure an unobstructed pilgrimage route, the road connecting Pandu Port to Kamakhya Temple will remain closed during the mela. Devotees have been advised to use the Mekhela-Ujowa pathway to reach the temple. Furthermore, footwear (shoes and sandals) will not be allowed beyond the entry point to Nilachal Hill.

Ban on Sound Systems and Processions

In order to uphold the spiritual sanctity of the event, the administration has banned all forms of musical instruments, sound systems, and decorative processions (shobhayatras) during the mela period.

Extensive Security and Surveillance Measures

Given the massive influx of pilgrims expected from across the country, a multi-tiered security setup is being deployed, including:

  • 120 permanent security personnel

  • 250 temporary security personnel

  • 400 scouts and guides

  • 150 volunteers

  • 110 additional temporary sanitation workers

  • 500 CCTV cameras installed for round-the-clock surveillance

These measures are aimed at ensuring crowd control, maintaining cleanliness, and monitoring key zones in and around the temple complex.

Administration Appeals for Public Cooperation

The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has appealed to all devotees to cooperate fully with security forces and temple volunteers, and to strictly follow the guidelines to make the Ambubachi Mela 2025 a peaceful and organised event.

Held annually in the Assamese month of Ashadha, Ambubachi Mela is one of Eastern India’s most significant spiritual gatherings, drawing lakhs of pilgrims, ascetics, and spiritual seekers to Kamakhya Temple. With the implementation of these guidelines, the authorities aim to preserve the temple’s sacred atmosphere while ensuring safety and access for all.
